Fans flood the ring after Tykade's winTykade made an impact this past Saturday at NZWPW Over the Top, entering the Royal Rumble at #19 and eliminating four men to earn an NZWPW Championship match at Power Play VII in June!

JC Star and “The Ideal Experience” Corey Dallas began the Rumble, briefly teaming together to eliminate the third entrant, The Macho Man. Their alliance was short lived though as entry #4, “Shining” Nick Silver formed a new alliance with Dallas and the two drove JC Star into the mat with a double suplex.

NZWPW veteran Disturbed and The Nerd were the next men to enter the match, while SNS hit the Silver Lining on the Ideal Experience, brining their partnership to an end. Chad Howard was out next, and quickly aligned himself with his tag team partner, The Nerd, to eliminate Silver.

Stellar Hammer turned heads as the eighth entrant into the match, before Thor (an apparent ally of Stellar) made his NZWPW debut as entry #9. Most of the Rumble participants rolled under the bottom rope leaving Disturbed alone in the ring to be choke slammed by Thor and squashed with a Stellar Splash!

Misty rushed to the ring, not an official entrant into the match, and assisted The Nerd as he tried to eliminate Stellar Hammer. Misty then tossed Thor over the top rope before eliminating The Nerd too as Johnny Idol joined the Rumble.

Chad Howard dumped Misty out of the ring for eliminating The Nerd and sent her backstage as NZWPW referee Damian Skyfire joined the match as entrant #11.

Disturbed found himself on the ring apron trying to suplex Johnny Idol out of the ring but was blasted with a Starstruck Superkick from JC Star that sent him crashing to the floor. Chad Howard popped Idol with a codebreaker though and eliminated him shortly afterward.

GI Jay hit the ring as the Rumble’s 12th entrant and knocked everyone silly with clotheslines before Corey Dallas ducked a shot and hurled Jay over the top rope. A masked man in the exact same attire as Johnny Idol hurried to the ring as the next entry into the match and tossed Chad Howard over the top rope for some revenge before Damian Skyfire dropped him with a stunner.

“Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate adopted a different strategy when he was announced as #15 - heading into the crowd to watch the match unfold with the fans instead of risking elimination by entering the ring.

Ben Mana was the next man into the match, and he made a beeline for Damian Skyfire, a man he had issues with in the past. Corey Dallas and Mana then formed an alliance to press the masked Johnny Idol into the air and out to the floor.

Dan Stirling hit the ring as #16 before Rehua returned to NZWPW as the 17th man into the match. Picking up right where he left off in NZWPW, Rehua began beating down Dan “The Man” before encouraging Corey Dallas and Ben Mana to heave Dan over the top rope.

Osisis drew #18 and made his way to the ring, accompanied to “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate now. Things really picked up when Tykade entered the Rumble as #19 though, dragging Rehua out of the ring from the outside.

Rehua and Dan Stirling began brawling to the back as former NZWPW Champion Jimmy Sparx made his return to the ring as the final man entered into the match.

The Circus of Tragedy double-teamed Damian Skyfire over the top rope as Sparx dropped JC Star with a Sparky’s Bottom in the middle of the ring. That was all the offence he would get to showcase though as Corey Dallas heaved Sparx over the top rope and out of the match.

JC Star tossed “Dream Catcher” out of the match while Dallas and Mana trapped Tykade’s arms between the middle and top ropes, rendering him useless as they eliminated Osiris.

With just four men left in the match, things stepped up a notch as Tykade managed to untangle his arms and eliminate both Corey Dallas and Ben Mana in quick succession.

Now down to the final two men, JC Star tried to hit Tykade with the Starstruck Superkick but had Tyakde catch the kick and shove JC away. A second attempt proved successful though, and JC had Tykade slumped against the ropes! Star rushed in ready to clothesline Tykade over the top rope and win the match, but the behemoth had JC scouted and flung him high into the air and out of the ring with a massive hip toss to win the match!

Fans flooded the ring to celebrate with Tykade, the new #1 contender to the NZWPW Championship. Tykade will now meet the NZWPW Champion for the title at Power Play VII in June.

NZWPW Over the Top Results:

  • Johnny Idol def. GI Jay
Idol targeted Jay’s leg for much of the match and once he took the taller man off his feet with a rocker dropper, Idol locked in a cloverleaf for a submission victory.

  • Chi-Tah def. Stellar Hammer
Hammer clearly had the power advantage in their match, but Chi-Tah refused to quit and rolled Stellar up with a reverse hurricanrana for a surprise pinfall.

  • The Nerd def. The Macho Man
Stakes were high in this match, with The Nerd earning a dinner date with Misty if he won. As such, Misty tried everything to cost him a victory, but her interference ultimately backfired. Misty entered the ring with the referee distracted and gave Nerd a ROFLcopter, but as she put him down The Nerd fell on top of Macho Man for a successful pin!

  • “The Ideal Experience” Corey Dallas def. Chad Howard
Chad Howard tried to cheat by untying the top turnbuckle, but Dallas was ready to play dirty as well and blasted Howard with a spanner as the referee was reattaching the turnbuckle. With Chad out on his feet, Corey sent him to the ropes and ploughed into Howard with a brutal Spear for a big win in his hometown.

  • NZWPW Tag Team Championship:
The Five Star Revolution (c) def. The Circus of Tragedy

The Circus tried to cut The Revolution off as they posed on the turnbuckles before the match had started, but they were answered with butterfly suplexes from Banks and Star. Suplexes proved to be the best strategy for the defending champs, who heaved Osiris and Woodgate around with belly-to-belly and T-bone suplexes before the Starstruck Superkick sent “Dream Catcher” stumbling back and onto Travis Banks’ shoulders for the Doomsday Device.

  • NZWPW Championship:
Rufguts (c) def. Dan “The Man” Stirling

Rufguts uncharacteristically looked for a top rope moonsault but was knocked back to the mat by Stirling. Keeping his head in the game though, Rufguts was able to lock Dan in the Clap Trap before Stirling punched his way free. It appeared as though Dan “The Man” might have had things wrapped up with the Dan Driver, but Rufguts slipped off Stirling’s shoulders and smashed him into the mat with the Michinoku Driver before locking in the Clap Trap for a second time and forcing Dan to tap out.

  • 20 Man Royal Rumble:
Tykade eliminated JC Star to win

Eliminating one fifth of all the entrants, Tykade made a big impression in the Royal Rumble as he flung JC Star over the top rope to take the win and the #1 contendership to the NZWPW Championship.
